KALANI FOUNDATION
Kalani Foundation 501c(3) is a nonprofit organization that helps women, kids and their pets fleeing domestic violence.
About Us
Our Mission
Our Mission is to inspire a healthier community by providing immediate resources of
shelter, food, clothing and transportation when women, kids and their pets are fleeing
domestic violence.
Our Vision
We believe that by providing positive resources and education to women and kids
fleeing domestic violence that they will understand they are not alone and the road to
recovery can be achieved.
How Kalani Foundation Started
After my abuser cut my dog, Kalani's leg, I saw a horrid look in her eyes that spoke to my heart. I had to get Kalani
out of that environment to save her life and in turn, it actually saved mine. I was being abused and when my dog
was injured by my abuser, I knew it was time to leave.
Leaving is hard to do and even harder doing it alone. When I escaped from my abuser, it felt like I hit roadblocks
every step of the way. I am now a survivor but my experience gave me a passion to do more.
Domestic violence effects 1 in 4 women by their intimate partner at some point in their lifetime, according to the
CDC 2019, and 1 in 3 women will experience some form of sexual violence during their lifetimes. Domestic violence
has effected my life since my childhood and whether it was within my family unit or with men I dated, all I knew
was violence until I almost lost my life.
The Kalani Foundation was formed in July 2015, and in November 2019, we received our Nonprofit Articles of
Organization and EIN from the State of Missouri. Our mission is to provide immediate resources for women, kids
and their pets fleeing domestic violence.
Our goal is to incorporate safe housing in Smithville, Missouri, to help women with immediate housing needs when
fleeing from domestic violence.
